Rotarian Philip Harris Presents ESOL & Food Safety Certificates

On 8th August 2010, Rotarian Philip Harris, President, Rotary Club of Cardiff, congratulated 26 adult learners and presented ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) and Food Safety certificates.

The charitable organisation NAID “Nationwide Association for Integrated Development” run various training classes at their centre. The ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) course is important to the community, to demonstrate knowledge of life in the United Kingdom, as well as improving speaking, listening and writing skills for everyday life.

The students attend classes from all over South Wales. The ESOL language course was delivered within citizenship context and uses learning materials derived from the “Citizenship Materials for ESOL learners” pack produced for the Home Office by NIACE and LLU.

The award ceremony was initiated by a welcome speech and the meeting was then conducted by Ahmeda Ali and the meeting presiding by Anwar Ali, Chief Executive of NAID. The programme started with a short documentary film showing NAID’s activities in the UK and Bangladesh by Dilwar Ali.

Ana Miah, Deputy Executive of NAID said:
“NAID has been working for the community here in the UK and Bangladesh since 2001, annually we raise thousands of pounds each year which are used to help underprivileged people nationally and internationally.”

Dilwar Ali, Secretary of NAID and Course Coordinator added:
NAID provides classes and training based on the needs of the community. BSGS Cardiff (NAID) is an approved centre of BSGS College which is accredited by the Accreditation Service for International College (ASIC) and recognised by many awarding bodies. NAID is working for the community and helping learners integrate into the community.”

Dr Shamsul Islam Chowdhury, said:
“I have seen NAID grow since 2001, it started of with small projects, just helping the few disadvantaged people. Now NAID has now developed to help both disadvantaged & advantaged people. I hope that NAID can help many more people in the years to come, especially in the medical and educational sector, as I believe with a good education, it can change lives.”

Rotarian Philip Harris, President, Rotary Club of Cardiff said:
“It is a great pleasure and privilege to be invited here to present the certificates. Rotary movement has been in existence for 105 years and in Cardiff since 1917. Rotary aims to help the community regardless of race, colour or religion.”

Davd Lewis, Rotary Club of Cardiff added:
“As an ex-worker within the environmental department. I am pleased to participate in this presentation. As a member of there chartered institute of environmental health, it is a pleasure to see the work of another organisation.

Anwar Ali, Chief Executive of NAID finally added:
“It is a great honour that Rotarian Philip Harris, President, Rotary Club of Cardiff, attended the ESOL and Food safety awards ceremony in presenting the certificates to candidates. I would like to honour all candidates on their success and also thank the community activists and news media. NAID will keep on to working together for the benefit of all communities nationally and internationally.
